Rubus pallidus – Series Radulae

back to Alphabetical index · Taxonomic index

On the continent the Radulae is split into two groups, series Radula with leaves felted below and series Pallidi with leaves not felted. This species takes the name of the second group and is distinguished by its distinctive ovate/cordate pale green leaves with broad, shallow teeth and flowers usually with white petals and red styles (sometimes the petals are pale pink or mauvish and the styles have little or no red). The stem is covered with short hairs and short-stalked glands with numerous pricklets and acicles. The main prickles, mainly on the angles, are relatively short and fine. It is widespread in Britain and Europe, probably favouring damper spots in woodland.
